New Resident Group Opposes Action Center at Emory

LakewoodCoConcerned is a new resident group that looks like it opposes the Action Center moving into Emory Elementary. No contact information is available so that’s all we know for now.

Meanwhile, The Action Center is planning on moving in. They are having another meeting at Emory on September 17, 2025.

Again, the latest information we have is that both Lakewood and Jeffco will be losing millions of dollars giving this closed school away while blocking out any better offer.

The following email is from the Action Center (thank you Lakewood Informer readers for sending this)

Scroll to the bottom to see how this circle of funding works – they hold lobbying events for elected officials and the elected officials provide government funding.

Hello Action Center Volunteers,

We are pleased to share this special edition of our Volunteer Newsletter, highlighting the progress of our future home and the vision for expanded services.

The Action Center plans to relocate to a larger facility in early 2027. Our current space can no longer meet the community’s needs, especially as our programs continue to expand. This move is essential for us to serve the community with dignity and efficiency in one centralized location.

Our Vision for the Future

Community needs are becoming increasingly complex and require us to think about how to best serve those needs in different ways. How can we make accessing services easier and less complex? Collaboration has long been part of our model. We hope to move into Emory Elementary School, a closed school in Lakewood, where we, along with partners and the community, will redefine how we create community, belonging, and well-being. In this vision, people will discover, access and experience the supportive health, wellness, and holistic services that they need to thrive - all in one building!

For nearly a year, anchor partners have been meeting to align services and design a seamless system of care for the communities we serve.

Key features include:
Comprehensive Health Care Services – including medical, dental, and behavioral health services

Early Childhood Education/Childcare Facility

Event Center – dedicated to community programs and gatherings

Workforce Development

Enrichment Classes & Activities

Community Café & Gathering Space

Sports Programming

Action Center's Combined Market for Groceries and Clothing

Action Center Family Zone - a "kid friendly" area where parents meet with Action Center professionals

Possible New Home Identified

The Action Center has identified the former Emory Elementary School in Lakewood as our possible new home. This building is ideal for our growing needs because it can accommodate more community members and partners.

Here's how the acquisition process works: In April, the Lakewood City Council voted to purchase the Emory campus. The city will keep the sports fields for public use. In October, the City Council will vote on the question of selling the building to the Action Center. Before the vote, we are hosting a series of community meetings at Emory to offer Lakewood residents a chance to learn more about our vision and share their thoughts and ideas.

Upcoming Community Meetings:

Aug 27 6-7:30 at Emory Elementary School, 1275 S. Teller Street in Lakewood

Sept 17 5:30-7:00 at Emory Elementary School, 1275 S. Teller Street in Lakewood

Please join us at either of the above meetings to learn more. And if you are not able to join, and want to share thoughts and ideas, please send us an email - communityinput@theactioncenter.org
Fundraising

The Action Center has been working on raising the necessary funds to bring this visionary project to life. Our Development Department is reaching out to corporations, foundations, and individuals for financial support through gifts and grants. If you’d like to learn more about the capital campaign or the project, please contact John Covert at 720-407-6704 or johnc@theactioncenter.org.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers remain at the heart of our work. Many roles will continue, some will shift, and new opportunities will emerge. In the coming months, we kindly ask for your feedback and ideas.

Look for future editions of our newsletters for more details.
