Suggestions For Next Steps

By Steve F on nextdoor.com

Key steps to heal Lakewood going forward after the April 7 vote

1) The https://www.change.org/p/protect-wildlife-in-lakewood-co-via-buffer-zones petition sponsored by savebelmarpark.com has almost 8,000 verified signatures asking for parks and open space wildlife buffers modeled after the Fort Collins ordinance. These thousands of folks and signatures were totally ignored by the insensitive zoning process. The Fort Collins ordinance should be implemented in Lakewood.

2) The draining of stormwater from Kountze Lake in Belmar Park by the Kairoi project at 777 S Yarrow Street should be modified to use stormwater as an asset as recommended by the hydrologist report submitted in the public record of the Planning Commission hearing and to restore stormwater to Kountze Lake.

3) The Mayor should apologize and post the apology on the city website for the removal of legally displayed Vote Yes or No campaign signs removed by city employees.

4) The city should agree not to pursue upzoning again in the future unless it is approved by a citywide vote.

5) The secret agenda should me made public. If the Mayor said upzoning was the ‘first step’, the other steps should be made public.

6) Ward 3 Councilor Low should apologize on the city website for mocking the zoning process with his halloween costume.

7) The Comprehensive Plan should be modified to be legally binding.

8) The Vote NO campaign chairperson Sophia M-G should apologize for her quote to the Denver Post after the election publicly accusing the vote YES supporters of ‘fear mongering’. This list is not necessarily complete.
